1. About Therapy

Therapy is a collaborative process designed to support your emotional wellbeing, increase understanding, and help you work towards meaningful change. My approach is tailored to your individual needs and may draw on a range of evidence-based psychological approaches.

Therapy can be very helpful, but it can also sometimes bring up difficult thoughts, feelings or memories. Progress can vary from person to person, and no specific outcomes can be guaranteed.

2. Appointments

Sessions are offered by appointment only and usually last 50 minutes, unless otherwise agreed.

Appointments may take place:

  • Online via secure video platform

  • In person in Southsea

  • By telephone, where appropriate

I will do my best to begin and end sessions on time. If you arrive late, the session will still usually end at the agreed time.

3. Fees and Payment

The fee for therapy is £90 per 50-minute session.

Payment is due in advance of each session, unless otherwise agreed.

Any fee changes will be discussed with you in advance and with reasonable notice.

4. Cancellation Policy

If you need to cancel or rearrange an appointment, I ask for at least 24 hours’ notice.

  • More than 24 hours’ notice – no charge

  • Less than 24 hours’ notice – the full session fee of £95 will be charged

  • Missed appointments / no-shows – the full session fee of £95 will be charged

This policy helps protect regular appointment times and ensures fairness in managing the practice.

5. Contact Between Sessions

You are welcome to contact me by email or text regarding practical matters such as booking, cancellations or rearranging appointments.

Please note:

  • I do not offer ongoing therapeutic support by email or text between sessions

  • Messages may not be monitored outside of working hours

  • I may not be able to respond immediately

If you are in crisis or need urgent support, please use the emergency contacts listed below.

6. Confidentiality

Everything discussed in therapy is treated as confidential.

However, there are some important exceptions where I may need to share information, for example if:

  • I believe there is a serious risk of harm to you or someone else

  • There is a safeguarding concern involving a child or vulnerable adult

  • I am required to do so by law or court order

  • There are concerns relating to serious criminal activity or terrorism

Wherever possible, I would aim to discuss this with you first.

I may also discuss aspects of my work in professional clinical supervision, which is standard good practice. This is done confidentially and to support safe, ethical and effective therapy.

7. Online Therapy

If sessions take place online:

  • Please ensure you are in a private, safe and quiet space

  • You are responsible for having a suitable internet connection and device

  • I will use a secure platform, but no online system can be guaranteed to be completely risk-free

  • If the connection fails, I will usually attempt to reconnect or contact you using the agreed backup method

Online therapy may not always be suitable for everyone and will be reviewed if needed.

8. Therapy Records and Data Protection

I keep brief clinical records in line with professional, legal and insurance requirements.

Your personal information will be handled in accordance with UK GDPR and data protection law. For full details about how your information is stored, used and protected, please see my Privacy Policy.

9. Suitability and Scope of Service

I will always aim to work safely, ethically and within my professional competence.

Before or during therapy, I may decide that:

  • a different type of support would better meet your needs

  • specialist or more intensive support is required

  • therapy with me is not the most appropriate option at that time

If this happens, I will discuss this with you and, where possible, help signpost you to other appropriate support.

10. Crisis and Emergency Support

This practice is not an emergency or crisis service.

If you feel unable to keep yourself safe, or need urgent help, please contact:

  • 999 if you are in immediate danger

  • NHS 111 and select the mental health option (or visit 111.nhs.uk)

  • Your GP

  • Your local Crisis Team, if you are under their care

  • Samaritans on 116 123 (free, 24/7)

If you are attending therapy online and I become seriously concerned about your immediate safety, I may need to contact emergency services or your emergency contact where appropriate.

11. Ending Therapy

Therapy can end at any time by mutual agreement, or if you decide you no longer wish to continue.

Where possible, I encourage us to use at least one final session to review the work, bring things to a safe close, and think about next steps.

I may also end therapy if:

  • therapy is no longer clinically appropriate

  • fees remain unpaid

  • repeated cancellations or non-attendance make ongoing work difficult

  • there is threatening, abusive or inappropriate behaviour

If therapy needs to end, I will aim to do so as sensitively and ethically as possible.

12. Complaints

If you are unhappy with any aspect of the service, I would encourage you to raise this with me directly where possible, so that we can try to resolve it.

You can also request a copy of my Complaints Policy.

13. Agreement

By booking and attending therapy, you confirm that you have read and understood these Terms and Conditions and agree to them.
